The girls and I went to Oktoberfest in Mt. Angel (excuse me: Mountain Angel... I forgot - Savannah doesn't think that it's Mt...) today. It was a wonderful day. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and all around us were children and adults wearing lederhosen. I DID NOT feel left out in the least little bit. Something about the leather pants just didn't seem to be all that comfortable.
Margaret went on her first all by herself pony ride - and loved it. Savannah showed off her gymnastic skills by doing front and back flips on the little trampoline ride... LeGrand slept through most of it, and I just enjoyed spending the day with the kids.
The trampoline ride seemed to be the most popular. The line was the longest, and I don't think it was just because there could be only 4 children on at a time, and they let the participants bounce to their little hearts' desires for 5 minutes. The way the ride worked was simple. Each child was harnessed to a pair of antennae that could be adjusted according to the child's height. Then, they were instructed to jump as high as they could on their individual trampoline. Margaret doesn't understand the concept of jumping on a trampoline, so it was hilarious to watch her try to jump...she wasn't going very high very fast. Savannah, on the other hand, was clear up there in the air and having a blast! I'll post pictures as soon as they come back from the developer. (Which means you can expect photos sometime next March...)
All in all, it was a wonderful day. The food was horribly overpriced (which is why we only bought snow cones and ice cream - it was cheapest...), the booths looked great, and the streets were crowded. I got sunburned, and my feet are a bit sore from walking, but I got a little exercise so I'm not complaining. And then, Savannah and I had a great time on the way home counting scarecrows. We found one...
